PRENATAL
Prenatal treatments help to maintain mobility and stability while managing the discomforts of an ever changing body. Pregnancy puts incredible demands on all our body systems, testing our resilience and adaptability.
While addressing any specific concerns, I will also be supporting you in the following areas:
- Support to the liver, and other aspects of the hormonal system as the body must metabolize an increased hormonal load
- Support to the uterus to ensure optimal vascularization for efficient contractions
- Mobility to all the joints of the spine and pelvis. Did you know that your tailbone (coccyx) can move upwards of 30 degrees while you labour. A supple spine and pelvis really improves labour outcomes.
- Support to the nervous system
Treatment Guidelines: A general rule of thumb to choose the frequency of treatments is to book with the change in trimester, with an extra treatment in the third trimester (ie: 13 weeks, 27 weeks, 32 weeks, 36 weeks). I encourage you to listen and trust your own body. Many women choose to have more frequent treatments to fully address their goals and concerns.
POSTNATAL
Regardless of the type of pregnancy, labour and delivery you experience postnatal treatment can help you re-establish normal and find more comfort in your body.
Breast massage: Can be an extraordinarily helpful tool to manage the discomfort of engorgement and plugged ducts, and the prevention of mastitis. Breast massage is so much more than simply working with the breast tissue. We will work with the mobility of your rib cage, encourage relaxed deep breathing, ease the tension in the muscles of your chest and shoulders as well as direct and gentle treatment to the breast tissue itself.
* If you are experiencing engorgement or plugged ducts, please bring your breast pump to the treatment.
Organs of digestion: Our organs of digestions need to move out of the way for the growing uterus. With delivery there is a rapid change in our internal pressure. This puts a lot of stress on the digestive system. Visceral treatment is gentle and can help support the function of the organs.
Rib cage, diaphragm and lungs: As your baby grows your ribs have to make space for baby and this means that there is less space available to take a full and deep breath. After baby is born some of this mobility returns naturally, but a lot of it can remain stuck. Treatment to the rib cage and diaphragm is especially helpful in the first few months before you are able to return to cardiovascular exercise. When we can breathe more easily we take in more oxygen and everything starts to feel better!
Low back / Pelvis / Shoulders / Neck: General body aches and pains are common with pregnancy and post partum. You are going through a lot! Treatment focuses on restoring mobility to the areas of your body that have lost mobility.
Can I bring my little one to a treatment? Of course you can. Having a family need not be a barrier to receiving the care that you require. Whatever works best for you is good with me. I am able to hold your baby (if you bring a carrier) while you receive treatment, or we can get creative to make both of you comfortable.
When is the best time to come for treatment? I offer supportive treatments no matter what stage of recovery and rehabilitation you are in. Some women enjoy treatment the first few days after delivery while others prefer to let life settle down first. You are the best judge of your own body and I encourage you to honour that.
House calls are available.

Baby
Cranio Sacral Therapy is such a gift to support and nurture the development of your little one.
Treatment is extremely gentle and supportive and yet allows your baby to unwind from the tensions in their body.
Treatment Guidelines:
Treatment can be very effective at any stage of development.
Booking an appointment shortly after birth can help manage the stresses of delivery.
Before an infant begins crawling they are generally more patient with treatment. However I am able to work with your child in any age or stage even if they are wigglers and can't stay still!
Treatment is tremendously helpful after your child has gone through a growth spurt or experienced a fall or other similar injury.
Treatment can help with the following:
Motor Skills. As your baby develops new motor skills (rolling, crawling etc…) pay attention to the symmetry of movement.
- Rolls to one direction more easily than the other.
- Is crawling symmetrical or does an arm or leg lag in the movement
- Does your baby prefer to scooch on their bum, or commando crawl
Plagiocephaly / Flat spots on the head. While it is best practice to always lay your baby to sleep on their back, this also has a tendency to develop a flat spot at the back of their head. Treatment will help manage and correct the tendency for flat spots to develop.
Eyes: Do the eyes both point forward and track objects, or does one have a tendency to go towards the midline? Treatment can help resolve eye strain.
Digestive Upset / Excessive Spit up: In some cases excessive spit up can be caused by compression of the vagus nerve, which travels from the head to the gut. Treatment can help relieve the pressure on this nerve, and ease the tensions in the tummy.
Torticollis. This is when the head rests naturally side bent and rotated. Treatment can help relax the muscles, and release the nerves in the neck so that the face looks forward naturally.
Tummy Time. Tummy time is super important for developing the curves of the spine, trunk strength and head control. When tummy time seems like a struggle and is not a preferred position, treatment can help ease the tension that limit this position.
Feeding Issues / Improving Latch. Does your have a preference for one breast? Is breast feeding a struggle? There are so many factors at play in this important relationship. Treatment for both mama and baby can improve feeding.
Ear infections: treatment can address the mechanical factors that predispose your child to ear infection.
